My inspiration for this record of my days:

“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less” -Anna Quindlen

A new bug

You know those nights when you lie awake forever thinking about some project or scheme?  Well lately I have had something very unusual occupying those hours.

A sewing bug.

Weird for me, since I don’t sew.  (You saw my attempt to teach Savannah!)   And I don’t normally spend a lot of time thinking about clothing or accessories.  But lately I lie awake in my bed, thinking of all the great outfits I could sew.  I even put jewelry and shoes with them in my mind.

Finally I decided to get it out of my system.  I made a skirt.  I was thinking that by the time I was finished with it, I would probably hate it.  Not so!  It turned out just like I had hoped.  It may not look like much to you, but I feel pretty accomplished!

  2. I have had the same bug lately. I even looked in to taking a sewing class at EAC but I couldn't work out the logistics. It's still eating at me. Did making the skirt fill your need or are you still dreaming of more projects? My dream project right now is matching Christmas dresses for my girls. But I know that's too ambitious. I should probably start with a skirt like you did. It turned out really cute.
