My inspiration for this record of my days:

“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less” -Anna Quindlen

My to do list

This morning I did not accomplish one thing on my to do list.  Consequently, I have all of those things still looming ahead of me.  But… as I was crawling into my nice, cool sheets for a nap (which, incidentally, I did not get to take because Simon woke up an hour before he was anticipated) I felt completely content with the way I spent my morning.

I read the boys a few stories.  I worked with Jonah on his chores.  I went egg collecting.  I helped  watched Jonah climb a tree “just like a big boy!”  I blew his hair dry, at his request, so it would stay spikey. I played motorboat.  And I gave Simon a bath and rocked him to sleep.  I could not have planned a more productive morning.

I’m so grateful to have a husband who makes it possible for me to stay home with my kids!  Thanks, Jeff (I think you’re actually the only one who reads this, anyway!) for taking such good care of us!

  1. you know on mothers day-- when some one mentions they wished they had worried less about laundry, dishes, having a clean floor and just "enjoyed" their kids when they were small... I always nudge Brian and say.. "See! I will never know such regret! I don't spend one second worrying about my sticky floor, or the dishes!"
I too am blessed to have a husband who thinks a stay home mom is the most important thing. Who needs air conditioning? We've gone without a few things.. but nothing I wouldn't gladly give up so I can stay home every day with my little ones! Your day sounds great.. even better if you had gotten in your nap!
