My inspiration for this record of my days:

“The biggest mistake I made [as a parent] is the one that most of us make. . . . I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of [my three children] sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages six, four, and one. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less” -Anna Quindlen

I just had to post this picture because this sign makes me smile every time I look at it.  It was created for one of Caleb’s business ventures that never got off the ground.  Never even got out the front door, actually.  Once he did the math of splitting the money with all of the people he had recruited as helpers,  he decided it wasn’t worth it.  I think the sign adds just the right touch to my dining room!

In other news… last night, after lights out, I heard Jonah in his bed beatboxing.  (Yes, that is a word.  I googled it.)

Puh, puh choo, puh, puh, puh choo!

I had heard him earlier, explaining to his preschool buddies that his big brother Caleb told him that if he practices a lot, he can get really good at it.  He’s well on his way.

I am currently preparing for battle.  Last week, after scouts, both of Caleb’s den mothers showed up at our front door.  They were very kind, wanting to work together with us to help Caleb learn to be respectful.

Since he was disruptive last week during flag ceremony, (this is not the first time we have had these issues) I have prepared some reading material on respect for the flag, and questions for him to answer.  Instead of going to scouts with his friends, he will be staying home to learn those principles a different way.

This will not be an easy afternoon for me.  I don’t anticipate happiness or cooperation.

Wish me luck.
